Expectant Mother

I went to the mall last night to return an outfit that I felt wasn't particularly flattering (for those of you who don't know I LOVE Ann Taylor Loft!!). As I was cruising the parking lot looking for a premium space I came upon the expectant mother parking.

Now let me say, I think this is an excellent idea. How many times have we seen mothers with 2 or 3 small children trying to get them into strollers, or even carry them all, calm them down and get inside the store without losing one of them in the process? And who wants to trek across the parking lot when you are 9 months pregnant? Not I!!!

I proclaimed to my mother-in-law (yes, I talk on my cell while driving, please no yelling at me!!) that I am an expectant mother. Hopefully in 9 months I will have a little one to care for. I am waiting and expecting just as a woman who is physically pregnant and have a lot of the same fears and concerns and excitements.

Now I will give you that this is a different journey. I don't have morning sickness or a growing belly to announce to the world that I am expecting, and I am not constantly reminded by other physical characteristics that I am soon to be a mother. But I (and Tony) am expecting nontheless.

Unfortunately, much of society, outside of the adoption community and loving family members, don't see adoption in this light. It's easier for them to forget also that the couple is expecting. There are often questions and strange looks when you talk of new clothes that you have bought or things you are doing to get prepared.

So, this is my wish today. Hug someone that you know is adopting. Treat them as you would pregnant couples and give them the same well-wishes. Maybe we can change our view of adoption and help those who are going through this journey!

Great post! I hope more people realize these things and do begin to share in the excitement of adoption with their friends and family.
